Pamela Winfield’s style had been primarily naturalistic until her move to India in 1996 triggered a change of direction to less figurative work. In many instances she has developed a more spontaneous approach, exploring pure colors and rhythms, yet not eschewing her love for the rigor of realism completely.

In much of her work one can find a synthesis of the two. Whichever language she uses, the image can serve as a point of departure to suggest subtler layers not dependent on the visible. The visible becomes a bridge into the invisible so to speak.

“I prefer to keep what is said about any visual art to a minimum. I hope the images can resonate with the viewer simply on their own.” PW
